Internship

Personal Development

During my internship, I developed and strengthened several important skills. I improved my communication by interacting with employees, applicants, and my supervisors through calls, emails, and in-person conversations. I also built my organization and time management skills by handling multiple tasks like scheduling, filing, and completing employee satisfaction surveys. In addition, I gained technical skills by using systems like KanTime to manage employee and client information, as well as learning more about the hiring and onboarding process in a healthcare setting. During this role, I made several contributions to the organization. I completed employee satisfaction surveys by calling all employees and collecting their feedback, which helped the company understand areas for improvement. I also assisted with scheduling by contacting caregivers to cover open shifts and responding to employee questions. I supported the hiring process by emailing applicants, sitting in on interviews, and helping with onboarding. In addition, I organized and updated files, entered data into KanTime, and helped develop an onboarding checklist for new employees. Some of my current areas for growth include gaining more confidence in leading interviews and making independent decisions. While I had the opportunity to participate in interviews and onboarding, I would like to continue improving my confidence in taking full leadership of those processes. I also want to further develop my skills in handling more complex HR situations and continue building my professionalism in a fast-paced work environment.

Academic Connections
  1. Courses like Organizational Behavior & Human Resources in Healthcare helped me understand how to communicate with employees and handle workplace situations during my internship

  2. My Management of Health Services Organizations class helped me see how healthcare operations run and how HR supports employees and overall performance

  3. I used what I learned in class about teamwork, leadership, and professionalism when working with staff and assisting with scheduling and onboarding

  4. My coursework helped prepare me for tasks like interviewing, employee communication, and organization, which I applied during my internship

  5. One area I wish I had more preparation in is hands-on HR systems (like KanTime) and real-life interview practice before starting the internship

  6. Most of what I learned in class aligned with my internship experience, but I noticed that in real life, things can be more fast-paced and require quick decisions compared to structured classroom scenarios

  7. This experience showed me how important it is to apply classroom knowledge in real situations and continue learning on the job
